Book Cover Design Brief

The Cyber Conflict Studies Association has produced an edited volume on Stuxnet, a computer worm that was discovered in 2010 and designed by America and Israel to target Iranian the nuclear enrichment program. This book titled "Cyber Conflict after Stuxnet: Essays from the Other Bank of the Rubicon" explores through a series of essays the implications of this secret government operation. Cover art should creatively play on this novel blend of technology and international affairs, or use metaphors like the Rubicon that explain the impact of this new technology.

The cover design should use the attached template, if selected, a follow up graphic might be requested to reflect the final spine width. Designers should integrate lorem ipsum text for "blurbs" on the back. Should integrate one of the attached CCSA Publisher logos below. Will need access to final InDesign file with all relevant graphics and fonts. I'll respond with feedback every several days and provide additional comments on past projects that can serve as models.

Reason: None of the initial designs were found satisfactory to the Executive Editors. New designs should also incorporate blurb text on the back: With the discovery of Stuxnet in 2010, the cyber conflict community crossed a strategic Rubicon. For years, Cassandras had warned of a future in which networked cyberspace would move beyond hacking and espionage to become a battlefield with effects in in the real world. Stuxnet proved this was possible. After careful testing, the Stuxnet malware found its way into closed industrial control system networks controlling Iran’s nuclear centrifuges and subtly caused them to destroy themselves in a way that looked like random, unexplainable malfunctions. This edited volume represents the first effort to comprehensively analyze Stuxnet and its implications. It brings together an interdisciplinary group of experts to examine the incident’s strategic, legal, economic, military, and diplomatic consequences. The essays explore Stuxnet in the context of both international and US domestic law; reveal the varied reactions in Beijing, Moscow, and Tehran; and offer confidence-building measures and frameworks for dealing with a post-Stuxnet world.
