Logo Design Brief

I need to produce a label for a product that ships next week, and before the label can be created, I need a logo, so sorry in advance for the short notice! We'll also be working on a website shortly that will also need a landing page.

Our company is Wise Buildings. Right now, everyone is interested in "smart buildings" - buildings that use technology in some manner, often to reduce energy costs.

Like other firms involved in "smart buildings", we are a technology contractor/solutions provider using control systems to lower overall operating and maintenance costs. But we also try to be "wiser" and use our experience and ability to ask the right questions that in turn allow our customers to either save more energy and/or invest less money initially than our competitors. For example, we might use the same hardware that is being used to minimize boiler operation expenses in an apartment building to also create alarms when someone tries to access the roof, or to use additional sensors to monitor the actual boiler efficiency when our competitors charge more to simply control the boiler. Or, the same sensor that turns the lights off in a conference room can also tell the HVAC control system that the room is unoccupied and therefor doesn't need as much heat or cooling depending on the season.

There are over 200 mentions of the word "wisdom" in the Bible - the word smart doesn't appear once, and word intelligent or intelligence appears less than 10 times.

Wise also implies "older and more experienced", which is a look and feel we are striving for. At the same time, we are a technology and innovation company, so there needs to be a careful balance of the old and the new.

As just an example (and not necessarily a direction), many law firms use a combination of black or dark green or burgundy mixed with gold to create a distinguished feeling. We don't want to come across as an old stodgy firm but we DO want people to believe that they are getting the best of both world - innovative, non-linear thinkers who can see ideas and solutions around the corner that others cannot by connecting the dots that others miss BUT also the combined experience from several 45 and older experienced "solutioneers" that know what they are doing.

The website isn't up yet so you won't see anything if you go look but that is the next thing we need to work on. But right now I have 11 projects to complete and I need a logo so I can make the labels for one of our products.

Target Market(s)

Primary target is property owners or managers of commercial real estate - they tend to be male, 40 to 65 years in age. Secondary target is contractors and distributors of energy management/controls equipment which are primarily male, 30-60 years old

Requirements

Must have

• Must be able to be reduced to fit on a business card and be legible. It should be two colors and must look distinctive and professional. Primary colors should be black, gray, blue, forest green, or burgundy. Both words must be used, even if I show you logos from other companies that only use one word.

Nice to have

• I would be fine using an icon or graphic under the letters, splitting the words, or a combination above and below the words. It would be nice to somehow be able to communicate that we are an "economic accelerator" in that we improve the economics of buildings by saving money.
• Also, in order to complete this submittal I am required to submit sketches/images - I really don't have any so the two you see are not necessarily "good", they just weren't "bad", so don't try to simply copy these stylistically because I won't be excited..

Should not have

• Cannot have more than two colors, small text that cannot be see when reduced on a business card. Cannot look "edgy" or silly or anything that would not appeal to the target demographic. Avoid bright flashy primary colors like red, orange, yellow, pink.
