Poster Design Brief

This poster will be used with the script to convey the essence of the film to potential investors. It needs to capture the magic of Christmases long ago before Santa Claus became known as a large guy in a red suit.

The title of the film is THE TRUTH ABOUT SANTA and it tells the story of a young girl (about 7) and her even younger brother (about 5) who are living with their grandparents because their mother has died. There have been problems within the family which mean the grandparents don't want the father to see the children.

The little girl writes a letter to Santa asking him to arrange for them to see their father for Christmas but the Grandmother spots the letter and tells the girl that Santa doesn't exist.

The girl is deeply upset and disillusioned but doesn't tell her brother what their grandmother has told her. Instead, on Christmas Eve, the two kids sneak out of the house and attempt to find their way across town to see their Dad.

After many adventures the children find themselves lost and it starts to snow. In desperation they shelter under a bridge where a homeless man lets them warm themselves at his fire. Soon the old man tells the kids a story from his childhood and as the children listen they learn the 'Truth about Santa'. Shortly afterwards a little seasonal magic reunites them with their father and grandparents in time for everyone to live happily ever after.

The story the old man tells is set in Europe in the middle ages and involves lots of snow, a village set in the woods and an old man who trudges through the snow to help his neighbours.

The poster should have the outdoors feel of a winter's night and could include figures huddled around a fire beneath a bridge but it could also include children in bed in their bedroom or more traditional Christmas elements such as stockings hung by a chimney or presents under a tree.

The overall feel should be uplifting and suitable for all the family.
