Sticker Design Brief
Hi,
My name is Jeff Whiting. Born and raised in a small, beautiful, unique coastal town called Santa Cruz, Ca. Santa Cruz is known for it's tolerance to weirdness, drugs, homelessness and sadly, homicides. Last month, the Santa Cruz police department has had two officers killed in while on duty. First time in history the department has ever lost a officer.
Detective Elizabeth Butler, left, and Sgt. Loran "Butch" Baker were slain in a shootout in Santa Cruz on Feb. 26, 2013 (see photo). The alleged gunman was later killed by responding officers.
Leading up to this, all within a month, there was 2 bank robberies, a college student shot in the head (lived) and raped, an armed robbery at a small herb shot, a MMA fighter shot and killed downtown. Simply madness.
Over the last month, the everyday residences of santa cruz have stood up and fought back. Marching to city hill, speaking at city council meeting...demanding a change. A change that is welcomed by many.
My point in elaborating all this, is so you get the feelings of sickness as well...hoping to help in my cause.
I want to make a sticker that embraces the following:
1) In remembrance of the fallen officers.
2) Capturing in time this moment of a movement in a positive. Keeping Santa Cruz safe and clean.
3) The natural element of this town:
* Ocean, Beach, Surf
* Beautiful Redwood Trees
* Boardwalk (local amusement park, been in Santa Cruz for over 105 years).
* Peace
4) To include the domain www.ilovescpd.com discreetly.
People who live in this town have a lot of pride. I want this sticker to remind all how lucky we are to live where we live...in harmony.
Updates
I can appreciate the difficult and visionary nature of project. I will try to elobrate on thoughts and desires however I dont want to tell you how it should look. This is my 5th time using DC, and I, for once, will not be providing an expample of what I am thinking. HEre are some more details of what the sticker should entail.
1) It needs to encapsulate the essence of this town. Do a google search of 'Santa Cruz, CA' and you will see the diversity this town offers. We are know for the mountains, beaches, surfing, skateboarding, Mountain biking, Amusement park, redwood trees, and tolerance.
2) It needs to say 'SANTA CRUZ' on it...not too bold, but bold enough that people can read it from a distance.
3) The fallen officers should be on there somehow. Either there faces or names, but not too bold.
The point of this sticker is to remember the officers, remember how lucky we are to live here, and a message to keep this place safe, clean, and welcoming.

UPDATE: After extensive talks with locals and neighbors, the decision has been made to remove the officers and their names from the sticker. The focus will be shifted on supporting the police department and not the families affected. Please use this text in some manner as a replacement;
"Thank you to those who serve and protect"
"Thank you SCPD"
"Do your part people"
"Safe and clean is how I roll"
