A 'REAL' camp experience for children & families affected by Selective Mutism
The Selective Mutism Anxiety Research and Treatment Center (SMart Center), in collaboration with the Selective Mutism Research Institute (SMRI) is very excited to host this unique opportunity for families with children 4-18 yrs old on Saturday, July 18th, 2015 in the Northern suburbs of Philadelphia, PA.
Led by Dr. Elisa Shipon-Blum, children and family members will have the opportunity to learn about and practice the evidenced-based Social Communication Anxiety TreatmentĀ® or S-CATĀ® strategies throughout the day.
"We believe this is the first event of its kind and most likely, the largest gathering of children/families affected by Selective Mutism in the world!"
The primary purpose of this intensive, but fun, one-day therapeutic camp is for families to learn hands-on treatment strategies, attend parent and child workshops, listen to parents/children who suffered from SM share their stories, attend support groups and just be with others who understand in a comfortable, stress-free and relaxed environment.
To help parents and children learn valuable strategies, they can choose to be grouped with other families and interact with counselors throughout the day or they can choose a less structured day while learning and informally meeting others through the many activities available at the camp. Or, families can decide on a combination of both experiences!
Whichever way families decide, they will have a wonderful and memorable experience as they meet others and enjoy a day long family picnic/BBQ on over 40 acres of an established child's day camp! Activities include; swimming, boating, playgrounds, miniature golf, hay rides, pony rides, face painting, tennis, basketball, ping pong, and MORE!
Thanks to the generous support provided from the SMRI, a grant has been provided to allow families to attend this event at a highly reduced fee.
