Logo Design Brief

I need a logo for a political software company called "Politech". The company is developing an online service that allows candidates for office to build and manage their campaigns. The logo will represent a company that will eventually develop several products utilizing data in a political context.

The software is a new approach to campaigns so, while I'm not opposed to the standard red, white, and blue color scheme, I'd like to see if there are a few other directions that the logo could go. Our target market is progressive candidates, so a predominately red logo should be avoided. Blue is fine. The logo will be the base of a larger brand identity - including color scheme.

The company is about doing something with a lot of tradition behind it (running for office) and updating it with 2015 technology. The logo should capture a sense of history in a modern context. The logo should also contain some portion (whether it is a stylized letter or separate "icon") which can be used as a smaller, independent version of the logo.
